Larkin Township, MI : Man working on truck killed after tire rolls onto his chest on Tuesday, August 9, 2016

A 42-year-old Michigan man has died after a semi-trailer he was working on rolled onto his chest.

The Saginaw News and Midland Daily News report that William Jewell’s fiancee found him pinned beneath the truck’s tire about 2:15 a.m. Tuesday outside his Larkin Township home, northwest of Saginaw.

Midland County Sheriff Scott Stephenson says Jewell was working on the vehicle Monday night and told a family member about 10:45 p.m. that he was “just about finished.”

His fiancee went out to check on him hours later after he failed to come to bed.

Stephenson says it appears Jewell was lowering the truck with a jack when the vehicle rolled forward.

A medical examiner determined Jewell died of asphyxiation from the truck’s weight.
