Corvallis, OR : Blodgett woman died, Alsea teen injured in a head-on collision on Highway 20 near Wren on Tuesday evening, August 2, 2016

A 62-year-old Blodgett woman was killed and a 17-year-old Alsea boy seriously injured Tuesday evening in a head-on collision on Highway 20 near Wren.

Donna Michele Heavrin was driving east on the highway when her 1998 Dodge pickup for unknown reasons crossed over into the westbound lane and struck a 1986 Toyota pickup, driven by Riley Andrew Russell, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office’s initial investigation revealed.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash, located near Priest Road, at 4:56 p.m. Heavrin was pronounced dead at the scene and Russell was airlifted to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis at around 5:50 p.m. The sheriff’s office said the teen “appeared to have suffered extremely serious trauma.” An update on his condition Wednesday morning was not available.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the cause and contributing factors to the crash. Toxicology test results were not immediately available.

Emergency responders from Philomath Fire & Rescue, the Blodgett/Summit Rural Fire Protection District, REACH Air Medical Services and the Corvallis Fire Department responded to the scene. Both drivers needed to be extricated from their vehicles.
