Bellaire, MI : Downstate couple killed in Isabella County crash on Saturday night, December 31, 2016

Two Macomb County residents died in a Saturday night traffic crash after the driver ran a stop sign in Chippewa Township and hit another vehicle.

A 63-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman from Center Line were pronounced dead at the scene after troopers from the Michigan State Police post in Mt. Pleasant responded to a traffic crash call at South Leaton and East Broomfield roads shortly after 10:45 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Lance Cook said in a press release.

Investigation indicated the Center Line residents were in a 1999 Ford Contour and were heading south on South Leaton Road north of East Broomfield when the driver ran the stop sign at the intersection and hit the driver’s side door of an eastbound 2004 Ford Crown Victoria with five occupants, Cook said.

The crash remains under investigation and police did not indicate whether the driver or any of the occupants of the Crown Victoria were injured.

Names of the victims were not released pending notification of family.

Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police, the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Fire Department, the Shepherd Tri-Township Fire Department, Mobile Medical Response and Isabella County Central Dispatch assisted.
