CALDWELL COUNTY, NC : Man killed after high-speed chase ends in crash on Thursday, 18th January 2024

A Lenoir man is dead after crashing his car while he was engaged in a chase with county deputies, NC State Highway Patrol said.

Troopers responded to calls regarding the incident around 10:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, on Playmore Beach Road.

Michael Skelton, 41, of Lenoir, was found suffering from injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. An initial investigation stated that Skelton was engaged in a chase with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office. Skelton’s vehicle had crossed a center line near Packs Hill Road and left the road before striking a tree, troopers said.
