Austin, TX : Officer injured in motorcycle crash now in critical condition on August 31, 2016

A driver was trying to cut through the funeral procession and turned illegally in front of the officer, causing the officer to strike the side of that vehicle, Austin police Sgt. Andy Westbrook said. The crash is still under investigation, so any information regarding charges has not yet been released.The officer has been with the Austin Police Department for at least 15 years, Westbrook said.“He’s an amazing officer,” Westbrook said.A police spokeswoman said officers received reports of the crash around 11:13 a.m. at Burnet and Ohlen Roads.

According to Austin-Travis County EMS, the officer, who is thought to be in his 40s, was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with serious injuries.

Details on the cause of the crash were not immediately available.

The northbound lanes of Burnet have been blocked while police investigate the crash. The southbound lanes remain open, police said.
