Sacramento, CA : 2 killed, 5 injured in rollover crash on southbound I-15 just north of Hodge Road on Sunday, 23rd September 2018

Authorities said two people were killed and five others were injured in a rollover crash on Interstate 15 on Sunday night.

California Highway Patrol officials said an 11-year-old boy and a woman died while one other person suffered “major injuries” from the crash, which occurred on southbound I-15 just north of Hodge Road at 9:38 p.m. that night.

The crash involved a 2002 Toyota SUV, occupied by its driver and six passengers, headed south on I-15. The SUV veered off the roadway “for reasons still under investigation” into the dirt center divider, where it collided into a K-rail east of the roadway and overturned.

“After the initial impact, the Toyota continued to overturn,” officials said. “During the overturning sequence, an 11-year-old male passenger was ejected from the Toyota.”

The boy and a woman in the Toyota both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead on scene. Their identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Officials said one other passenger was airlifted with “major injuries” to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and two passengers were taken to Barstow Community Hospital for “suspected injuries.”

The driver of the Toyota, a 44-year-old Los Angeles man, and another passenger sustained “moderate injuries” but declined medical transport. No other injuries were reported.

Alcohol or drugs are not considered to be a factor in this crash, which remains under investigation.
