Mount Vernon woman killed in hit-run driver charged

Police are trying to determine how a 21-year-old Mount Vernon woman ended up in the street Saturday morning before being killed in a hit-and-run accident.A livery vehicle struck Taja Johnson, 21, of 426 N. High St., Mount Vernon, about 4:30 a.m. in upper Manhattan after she exited a silver Audi, according to New York police.Boubacar Bathily, 53, of Manhattan, was driving a Lincoln Town car south on Eighth Avenue at West 133rd Street in Harlem when he hit Johnson in the middle of the street and fled the scene, police said.
