Two people were killed in a fiery head-on crash on Highway 70 north of Marysville early Monday morning.

According to a report by the California Highway Patrol’s Chico Division, the crash happened around 6:20 a.m. on Highway 70 just to the north of Chandler Road.

Officers received a report of a white Ford F-250 driving erratically on southbound Highway 70 around 6:16 a.m. Minutes later, investigators say the F-250 crossed into the northbound lanes and collided head-on with a Ford Explorer.

The crash caused the Explorer to veer off the road to the right where it rolled and caught fire. The F-250 also rolled but stayed on the northbound lanes and collided with a Lexus RX-350.

Both drivers of the F-250 and the Explorer were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither driver has been identified at this time. The driver of the Lexus was not injured in the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
