Kentwood,MI : Hundreds lose power in 28th St. area after crash on August, Thursday 31th 2017

A Grand Rapids mall was among the hundreds of homes and businesses that lost power after a vehicle hit a utility pole.

The outage was reported around 3:23 p.m. Thursday and covered a swath of 28th Street SE between M-37 and Patterson Avenue, according to the Consumers Energy outage map. Most of the Shops at CenterPoint mall was included in the impacted area.

A Consumers spokesman said that service had been restored to all but about 20 customers as of just after 5 p.m. Everyone else was expected to have power back by 9 p.m.

The city of Kentwood said the problem was the result of a crash at the intersection of East Paris Avenue and 29th Street in which a car hit a utility pole. A viewer photo sent into ReportIt showed a damaged SUV and power pole at the intersection.

The intersection was expected to remain closed through most of Friday because power lines and the traffic signal were damaged in the crash, the city said. Drivers were advised to avoid that intersection Friday morning.

The city said no one was hurt in the crash
