Vienna man dies in crash on Virginia

The stepbrother of a man who died earlier this week in a one-vehicle auto accident was killed Friday morning in a head-on crash on West Virginia 14.Wood County sheriff's Chief Deputy Shawn Graham confirmed Vienna resident Brendon Michael Wigal, 18, died shortly before 6 a.m. Friday near Glendale Road after his 1999 Buick Skylark, traveling south on W.Va. 14, crossed left of center and hit a northbound 2008 Jeep Wrangler head on.

Wigal was the stepbrother of Jacob Michael "Jake" Cunningham, 22, of Waverly, who was killed Monday in a fiery wreck on St. Marys Pike. Cunningham's obituary appeared Friday in The Parkersburg News and Sentinel.

"That is incredibly sad," Graham said. "They lost one son on Monday and another on Friday. I've not run into that before. I really feel for their family."

The driver of the Jeep, 23-year-old Emily Jade Babbitt of Racine, Ohio, and her passenger, Christopher Bowl, 22, no address available, were injured in the accident. Officials with Camden Clark Medical Center said Friday afternoon Babbitt was listed in good condition while Bowl had been treated and released.
The collision is still under investigation, and few additional details were available, Graham said. Graham said officials were unsure why the wreck occurred.

"There were witnesses to the wreck who said he lost control of his vehicle and went left of center," Graham said of Wigal. "We don't know why yet."Graham said Wigal was pronounced dead at the scene. It was unclear whether he was wearing his seat belt.Following the accident, Graham said Friday afternoon there was a dog believed to be in Wigal's car at the time of the accident.

According to the Wood County Sheriff's Department, the family described the dog as a reddish Shepherd mix with a black face, about 50-60 pounds that answers to the name "Bo."
Throughout the day Friday, authorities and volunteers were seeking information on the dog. Graham said Friday evening he had unconfirmed reports the dog had been found and was dead.
