Salt Lake City, UT : Mountain Crest graduate killed in Central Utah crash on Saturday, December 17th 2016

A serious crash in Central Utah has claimed the life of a Millville woman who was in the middle of moving home to Cache Valley to be closer to family for the arrival of her first child.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, Bayley Zollinger Huerta was northbound on I-15 just before noon Saturday. She was about 6 miles north of Cove Fort when she approached a minor crash ahead of her. While she and other vehicles traveling near her slowed down, the driver of a yellow semi truck did not.

Troopers say a white Chevy truck immediately behind Huerta’s Jetta saw the semi coming and was able to was able to take evasive action, leaving the oncoming semi to rear-end a red Ford truck, pushing it into the rear and on top of Huerta’s much smaller car. The impact also forced the front of the car into the rear of another semi.

While rescuers initially thought the crash had been fatal, they found Huerta still had a pulse when she was pulled from the wreckage, so she was flown to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in extremely critical condition. She and her unborn baby, a girl to be named Elenna Grace, both died from injuries sustained in the crash.

According to the UHP report, Huerta’s sister was a passenger in the vehicle and she was among several others transported to area hospitals in poor condition, but information on her condition was not available at press time Monday.

Huerta is the daughter of Lance and Diane Zollinger, and in June 2015, she was married to Fernando Huerta. The couple had been studying at Southern Utah University, where Fernando played football. Fernando’s brother, Alex, is a linebacker for USU. Bayley and Fernando Huerta were moving back to Cache Valley, according to a GoFundMe account set up on their behalf.
