Charlotte County, FL : One person is dead after a Publix tractor trailer collided with a car on I-75 on early Sunday morning September 28th 2014

New information from the Florida Highway Patrol. A 2000 Mitsubishi became inoperable due to engine problems and stopped in the right lane on I-75 south bound near mile marker 167. A 2012 tractor trailer truck driven by Jimmy Lee Irvin of Lakeland approached, also heading south bound in the outside lane. FHP says the front right collided with the rear end of the car. The impact sent both vehicles off the road. The car's driver, identified as Melvi Bayola Gonzalez of Miami, was killed. Her passenger, Amehd Angel Olavarrieta of Homestead suffered minor injuries and was treated at Lee Memorial Hospital. The impact left debris over the interstate causing it to be shut down for hours overnight. Traffic was diverted at exit 167 at Harbor View Road. FHP continues to investigate.
