Brainerd,MN : Three-vehicle fatal crash in southern Crow Wing County,Brainerd on May,Thursday 31st 2018

The victim in Thursday's three-vehicle fatal crash in southern Crow Wing County has been identified as Rebecca Schlegel, 21, Brainerd.

The crash that claimed Schlegel's life happened about 4:31 a.m. Thursday on Crow Wing County Road 2 near its intersection with Thesing Road in Daggett Brook Township, the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office reported.


A second driver, Bruce Kerkhoff, 68, Brainerd, suffered critical injuries and was transported to Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center. His condition wasn't known Friday afternoon.

The third driver, Jean Nesheim, 70, Brainerd, was treated at the scene of the crash and released.

The three vehicles collided in heavy fog with limited visibility, the sheriff's office reported, and Schlegel's vehicle caught fire as a result of the crash.

The Minnesota State Patrol, Brainerd Police Department, Morrison and Mille Lacs county sheriff's offices, Pierz Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office reported.
