FRANKLIN, TN : Driver survives after crashing into ravine off I-840 at mile marker 16 near Natchez Trace Parkway in Williamson County on Tuesday, 31st July 2018

A man is lucky to be alive after crashing his car and plunging several hundred feet into a ravine off Interstate 840 on Tuesday morning.

The crash happened in the eastbound lanes just before 5 a.m. at mile marker 16 near Natchez Trace Parkway in Williamson County.

According to officials, the vehicle jumped an embankment and went airborne, falling into the ravine.

A woman who saw the crash happen in her rearview mirror called 911.

When first responders arrived, the driver was found trapped underneath his vehicle but was conscious and able to talk. Officials say he has non-life-threatening injuries.

It is not clear at this time what caused the crash.

All lanes of I-840 have reopened in the area.
