Los Lunas, N.M : Valencia County sheriff's deputy hurt in crash Early Wednesday, February 8, 2017

Early Wednesday, around 4 a.m., a deputy with the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office was traveling northbound on N.M. 314 near Mile Marker 6 and rear-ended a passenger vehicle (also traveling northbound).

State Police Sgt. Chad Pierce said the male driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital to be treated.

Valencia County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Gary Hall said the deputy, Jeremie Navarez, is in ICU at UNM-Hospital being treated for a spinal injury. He’s been with the sheriff’s office for a little more than a year, Hall said.

This crash is currently under investigation by the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
