Lehigh County, PA : One dead, six injured in rollover crash on Route 22 near Airport Road on Friday, August 19, 2016

One person was killed and one other seriously injured late Friday in a collision that flipped a pickup truck on Route 22 near Airport Road in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, according to emergency radio reports.

Two people were reported in cardiac arrest minutes after the 11:37 p.m. crash on the highway's westbound lanes. One of them was reported dead before midnight. At least five other people had less serious injuries.

One man was ejected from the pickup truck and trapped under the vehicle, a fire official radioed. Two cars also were involved in the accident.

The Lehigh County coroner's official van arrived at the accident scene just before 1 a.m. Saturday as the investigation began in earnest.

After the crash, the pickup lay on its roof across both westbound lanes, nearly a mile west of Airport Road. A white car sat just west of the pickup; a red car was three car lengths to the pickup's east. Both cars faced west.

When the first reports of the accident came in, the Han-Le-Co Fire Company was dispatched to Route 22 as were several ambulance units from Lehigh and Northampton counties.

With westbound traffic suddenly backed up to Airport Road, state police directed motorists to turn their vehicles around and go east in the westbound lanes to an off-ramp, where they escaped the logjam.

State police investigators were expected to keep the westbound lanes between Airport Road and Fullerton Avenue closed until after 6 a.m. Saturday while they took measurements and photographed the accident scene.

The crash happened behind the Julabo offices on 884 Marcon Blvd., about 400 feet west of where Route 22 crosses over Irving Street.
