MARION COUNTY, OR : Woodburn man on berry harvester dies in early morning crash on Hwy 211 on July, Friday 21th 2017

Troopers said a Woodburn man died early Friday morning following a crash between the berry harvester he was riding on and a tractor-trailer on Highway 211.

According to the Oregon State Police, the troopers and emergency personnel arrived at the scene near milepost 1 just after midnight.

The preliminary investigation from the scene revealed that the 2012 International semi-truck and trailer driven by a 23-year-old from Portland was headed east on Highway 211 when the harvester operated by a 30-year-old from Woodburn entered the highway from a field in front of the tractor-trailer, which hit the rear of the implement.

Two other passengers were also on the harvester at the time of the crash, and one of them, Genaro Colohua Sanchez, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The operator of the harvester and the second passenger were both taken to the hospital in Salem with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Highway 211 was closed for about two hours following the crash, and troopers said the investigation is ongoing. The Woodburn Police department, Woodburn Fire & Ambulance, and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted in the response to this incident.
