FLORENCE, KY : Alcohol, speed suspected in deadly NKY crash on April, saturday 22th 2017

One person is dead and two others critically hurt following a three-vehicle crash in Northern Kentucky on Saturday.

It happened on Dixie Highway near the intersection of Totten Lane just before 9:30 p.m.Maxwell Detzel, 22, of Fort Thomas, lost control on a curve and crossed the center line, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office. Detzel then struck a vehicle heading the opposite direction, driven by Ernest Wright, 39, of Cincinnati.

After striking Wright's vehicle, officials said Detzel continued northbound into the southbound lanes, striking another vehicle driven by Joshua Ray, 26, of Fort Mitchell.

Ray was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detzel and Wright were both flown to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with critical injuries.

Investigators said alcohol and speed are suspected as factors in the collision. No one was wearing a seat belt.

No charges have been filed at this point.

Dixie Highway was closed for about four hours as crews investigated.
