Authorities in West Virginia say the driver of a bus that slammed into a tree, injuring 26 students and one adult from Ohio, has been cited for driving too fast.
West Virginia State Police Senior Trooper K.M. Parker says speed was a factor in the Thursday evening crash along with the driver's unfamiliarity with the winding road.
The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register (http://bit.ly/2p6Sl7q ) reports the driver, Donald Haggerty, was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
Parker says the driver is not suspected to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The bus was carrying football players from Buckeye Local High School in Rayland, Ohio, to watch a football practice at West Liberty University in West Virginia.
Several passengers were taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries.
