Las Vegas, NV : A scooter rider was killed in a crash on Wednesday, June 14, 2017

A scooter rider was killed Wednesday afternoon in a crash with a dump truck that shut down the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Nellis Boulevard for several hours, according to Metro Police.

Officers and medical crews were called to the crash about 2:15 p.m., police said.

The 73-year-old Las Vegas man failed to stop at a traffic light and crashed into the side of the truck, which caused him to be thrown from his 2016 Jingsu 50cc moped, police said.

Although he was wearing a helmet, he died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center where he was taken in critical condition, police said.
