SHELBY COUNTY, TX : 1 dead in crash on icy road in Shelby Co., Texas on Monday, 15th January 2024

One person is dead after a wreck on an icy road in east Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the one-vehicle crash happened Monday, Jan. 15 on FM 2694 in Shelby County. Preliminary details indicate that around 8:10 a.m., a 2020 Jeep SUV was headed west on FM 2694 at an unsafe speed when the vehicle slid across the eastbound lane off the road. The Jeep then crashed into two trees.

The driver was pulled from the vehicle by someone who witnessed the crash; the vehicle then caught fire and burned.

Officials say the driver was identified as Barbra Jackson, 54, of Shelbyville. She was pronounced dead on the scene by the Shelby County justice of the peace.
