Scranton, PA : Three people injuries after a three-car crash on Interstate 81 in Scott Township on Sunday morning, August 21, 2016

Three people were taken to a hospital with severe injuries after a three-car crash Sunday morning on Interstate 81.

Christopher A. Lewis, 19, of Scranton, who was in one vehicle, and John M. Crowley, 25, of Waymart, and Eric D. Edwards, 25, of Hamlin, who were in the second vehicle, were taken to Geisinger Community Medical Center, state police said.

I-81 northbound near mile marker 197 was closed for about five hours after the 3 a.m. crash.

A hospital spokeswoman said Mr. Lewis and Mr. Edwards were listed in “good” condition. Mr. Crowley was in “fair” condition.

Three people in the third vehicle were not hurt, state police said.
