1-year-old killed in Hale County crash

Speed was a factor in vehicle crash that left a young child dead in Hale County Tuesday night, Alabama State Troopers said.James Carlton McGilberry, 1, of Demopolis was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Alabama Highway 69 South.

The child was not properly restrained, according to release from the Alabama Department of Public Safety.Driver Kylie M. Smyly, 27, of Demopolis and Chloe Smyly, 8, were injured after the 1998 Toyota 4 Runner left the road and struck a tree at 5:45 p.m. The accident happened five miles south of Greensboro.

The wreck is still under investigation but state troopers stated that speed was a factor and that seatbelts and child restraints were not being used.
