FARMINGTON, NM : Procession escorts family killed in crash on May, Wednesday, 17th 2017

It was the final trip home for a young Four Corners family Wednesday.

A father, mother and their two young children were killed in what investigators believe was a drunken driving crash. They were transported from Albuquerque to Farmington.

People, including fire and law enforcement officials, lined the route. They traveled on U.S. 550, past the spot where the family was hit head-on and killed Friday night.Three others were injured in the wreck, the driver of the other vehicle killed as well.

The procession was met in Bloomfield with a flag flying from a Bloomfield Fire Department ladder truck at the intersection of U.S. 550 and U.S. 64.

By the time the Crawford family had reached Farmington, the line was more than a mile long representing fire agencies across New Mexico and Colorado, where Jimmie Crawford volunteered for Durango Fire Rescue. Police, paramedics, and a number of private vehicles were all in escort.

Along the way, people stopped to pay their respects. Many took photos, either shedding tears or holding them back for a family they didn't know.

“He was part of the community as a firefighter. We just show our respect to firefighters, law enforcement, and everything like that. We do care,” said Cordaleray Benally.

There is no word yet on when the funeral for Jimmie, Melissa, Grant, and Chase will be.
