The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a rollover crash that left three people dead and two critically injured Sunday afternoon.

The NHP tweeted about 3:45 p.m. that the incident happened on Interstate 15 southbound near mile marker 75. The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada tweeted that the accident is in the area of Moapa and the Valley of Fire State Park.

According to Larry Haydu, assistant fire chief for the Clark County Fire Department, fire units arrived on scene around 3:05 p.m. and found a van on fire with five people inside. Three people were pronounced dead at the scene and two others were taken by helicopter to Las Vegas hospitals.

Southbound Interstate 15 was closed to accommodate an air ambulance, NHP said. About 5:40 p.m., Haydu reported that one lane was open while the NHP investigated. Motorists in the area should expect delays.
