Phoenix, AZ : Motorcyclist killed in rear-end collision on I-17 near Happy Valley Road early Tuesday morning, February 16, 2016

A motorcyclist died after being rear-ended by a car on southbound Interstate 17 near Happy Valley Road early Tuesday morning.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Raul Garcia said Dennis Oddo, 57, of Phoenix, was hit by a Dodge Stratus just after midnight.

Garcia said Leith Monroe, 33, was driving the car at a high speed when she clipped the motorcycle, shearing off one of the front wheels of the car. Oddo was thrown from the motorcycle and tumbled along the roadway.

A witness stopped and rendered first aid and CPR to Oddo. He was transported to a hospital where he died.

Monroe stopped about a quarter mile from the scene and later was taken into custody by Arizona state troopers. Garcia said she was uncooperative on scene.

"Initially, this was reported as a hit-and-run collision and because that front wheel is completely sheared off, appears to be the reason why it ceased to travel southbound," Garcia said.

Garcia said DUI has not been ruled out at this time.

Monroe, of Many Farms, Arizona, was booked into jail for second-degree murder and criminal damage.
